MORAL COURAGE IS THE LION OF JUDAH

An Urgent Humanitarian Appeal to the American, the British

and the European Leaders

Freydoon Khoie

In this short article, I hope to highlight the significant and devastating impact of the 43-years of political tensions and the long term harsh economic sanctions on innocent Iranian businessmen and the broader Iranian population. It's clear that these issues have created substantial challenges for Iranian business leaders and the Iranian people as a whole. Finding a resolution to these long-standing issues is indeed the most urgent and crucial.

We must unequivocally condemn the unjust treatment of innocent businessmen solely because of their Iranian nationality. The 43-year-old political tensions, hostilities, and emotional wars between the Islamic State in Iran and the United States, European Union, and much of the world have inflicted immeasurable suffering upon the Iranian people. Iranian business leaders, in particular, who are active in the global markets, have endured tremendous hardships.

The harsh economic sanctions, though ostensibly designed to pressure the theocratic tyranny of Iran to change its behavior, have, in reality, wreaked havoc upon the economic health of the nation. These sanctions have not only devastated the life of ordinary people in Iran, and Iranian businessmen around the world and have also cast an unfair stigma upon the innocent Iranian people, who bear no responsibility for the decisions made by the theocratic dictatorship regime.

It is imperative that we all recognize that moral courage is the lion of Judah in this struggle. The American and European leaders and governments, possessing immense power, must utilize their fair- mindedness and responsibility to find a humane solution to end the perpetual suffering of the Iranian people and business leaders. These individuals face monumental challenges in conducting business globally, securing finance and banking relations, obtaining travel visas, and more.

From a moral standpoint, it is incumbent upon the international community to prioritize the well-being of innocent civilians above political considerations. Diplomatic dialogue, engagement with international organizations, and the separation of politics from people should be paramount. Upholding human rights and freedoms, regardless of geopolitical tensions, is a testament to moral courage.

Let us remember that moral courage, like the lion of Judah, stands strong and unwavering. Governments should evaluate the effectiveness of economic sanctions while taking into account the unintended consequences on innocent lives. By building trust and working collaboratively, we can find a path

towards justice, empathy, and the alleviation of suffering for those affected by these protracted conflicts. The time for moral courage is now. Here are the areas that we should focus on:

Humanitarian Perspective:

Millions of innocent Iranian individuals are suffering due to circumstances beyond their control. Humanitarian concerns should be a top priority, and efforts should be made to alleviate the hardships faced by ordinary Iranians.

Diplomacy and Negotiation:

Diplomatic dialogue between nations can be a powerful tool to address these issues. Engaging in productive conversations and negotiations can help find solutions that are mutually beneficial and can lead to the easing of economic and political sanctions and the establishment of humanitarian channels.

Engaging the International Community:

Encouraging responsible world leaders and international organizations and other nations to play a role in facilitating discussions and offering assistance to those affected by sanctions can be beneficial.

Separating Politics from People:

It's essential to differentiate between government policies and the people they affect. The actions of a government should not be used as a basis for discriminating against individuals or businesses from a particular country.

Human Rights:

Upholding human rights principles is critical. Governments and international organizations should continue to advocate for the protection of human rights and freedoms, even in politically tense situations.

Economic Solutions:

Economic sanctions should be evaluated for their effectiveness and potential unintended consequences. Policymakers should assess whether the sanctions are achieving their intended goals without disproportionately harming innocent Iranian civilians and businesses

Building Trust:

Rebuilding trust between nations is a complex process but a necessary one for resolving long-standing issues. Confidence-building measures can help pave the way for productive negotiations.

Ultimately, finding a solution to these complex issues will require cooperation, patience, and a commitment to the well-being of all affected parties. It's important for governments and international actors to work together to address these challenges while minimizing the negative impact on innocent individuals and businesses.
